Permanent Representative, Organization of American States (Acting)
Term of Appointment: 01/31/2007 to present




Mr. Manzanares is currently the Acting Permanent Representative of the United States Mission to the Organization of American States.

Prior to this assignment, J. Robert (Bob) Manzanares was Deputy Chief of Mission and Charge d'Affaires at the U.S Embassy in Spain from 2003 to mid 2006.

Previously, he was Executive Director to the Executive Secretariat of the office of Secretary of State under Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. He also was Executive Director for the Bureau of African Affairs from 1998 to 2000.

Previous positions include: Abidjan, Ivory Coast - Regional Management Officer; Mexico City, Mexico - Management Officer; Reykjavik, Iceland - Management Officer; Tel Aviv, Israel - Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Management Counselor. Mr. Manzanares also held a number of positions in the State Department: Advance Officer for Presidential international visits during the terms of President Ronald W. Reagan and President George H.W. Bush; Senior Watch Officer at the Operations Center and served at the National Security Council from 1993 to 1994 as Director of Administration.

Born and raised in Colorado, Mr. Manzanares received his Bachelor of Arts from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. He has a Master in Public Administration Degree in City Administration from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.
